Blender magazine recently asked, “Which was your very first tattoo, and what were the circumstances?”
My first tattoo is kind of a line-art thing. It’s a little jailhouse-looking. It was done in my friend’s back room in
South Florida with a mail-order tattoo gun. I was was 15 or 16. He could draw well — I’m sure he went on to become a wonderful tattoo artist — but I was the guinea pig. When you get a tattoo, you get spots of blood. I was gushing as if I’d been stabbed by a butcher’s knife. The tattoo has since raised like three inches. It looks like a muscle or something. My mother said, “Were you drunk?” And I was offended, because I ran with the straight-edge scene.
