Story Behind The Ink: Hellboy Comic Tattoo
Posted on March 14th, 2007 at 2:13 pm by admin

Hellboy comic tattoo picture

This is my favorite and most recent tattoo. I love how the black and white contrast ended up looking. This cartoon is from a series that I LOVE called Hellboy, by Mike Mignola. At one time, he worked for Dark Horse comics.

Mike’s style in general, is high contrast, which made it good for this tattoo. Also, I loved this particular part of the cartoon. I guess Mike’s editors asked him to do a short piece on Hellboy’s childhood. Mr. Mignola thought it wouldn’t make more than a page or two, but it ended up being a lot longer. It’s a Hilarious section.

Hellboy is being introduced to pancakes for the first time, and though he is wary, he tries them. He discovers he likes them, which leads to hell being completely screwed up.

The tattoos that I have on my upper body are all pretty serious. I wanted the ones on my lower body to be funny. I got this last July (06’), but I had planned on having comic books on my legs for a while. I have always loved comic books and I plan to do another one. My name is Jen, and I have a comic called ‘Killing Time’ that will come out on lulu.com this December or January.

Tattoo Story Behind The Ink - Tribute to Sons
Posted on March 13th, 2007 at 10:58 pm by admin

Flames Tattoo

The tats on my forearms are in tribute to my kids. I have 2 boys (8 and 3) and my older son recently moved with his mother to Switzerland. Since I don’t get to see him that much, I figured this was a way to give me a reminder each day that my kids are always with me. Each is a mirror image of the other & has their intials & birthdates. Simple, but they mean a lot to me. My youngest loves both of them because it has his inital “V” whether it’s upside or rightside down! Funny.

Story Behind The Ink - Scorpio
Posted on March 13th, 2007 at 10:45 pm by admin

I always thought tattoos were cool and wanted one as long as I can remember.  It was always just a cost factor; somehow I always found something else to spend my money on - bills, traveling, partying, etc.  In some ways it was a good thing because I probably would have wound up with something that I outgrew or didn’t have a lot of personal meaning to me.  I decided on the scorpion design in combination with the zodiac symbol for Scorpio about five years before a couple of my friends - Mike and

Mark - got me a gift certificate for my birthday present.

I guess what my tattoo means to me is I truly identify myself with my zodiac sun sign of Scorpio.   I just think that it is cool that your zodiac sign is set by the time of year - which could also be described position of earth in relationship to the sun - at the time of your birth.  I find it very real that the time of year you were born influences some traits of the type of person that you are now and how you relate to the world.

There is an intensity of purpose in Scorpio, who approaches life with total commitment, or not at all.  Their deep sensitivity makes them the most loyal friend or the most treacherous of enemies.  When they harness their abundant energy constructively, self-confidence tempered with shrewdness provides Scorpio to excel at whatever they undertake.

Scorpio is insightful and philosophical.  Through its powerful personal magnetism, Scorpio draws people and opportunities to itself.  Scorpio teaches us that the Dark and the Light both exist.  One is part of the other.  Our path is to bring Light into darkness, to expose, not deny.  To embrace, not condemn.  To accept, not judge.  Scorpio knows that acceptance of the present moment is the secret to knowledge.

The Scorpion represents this sign’s need to transform its dark brooding power through symbolic death and rebirth. The Scorpion pulls us deep inside ourselves so that we can examine our subconscious programming and limiting beliefs.  We must disentangle ourselves to set ourselves free.
